A secret sound

Kristine Marie Aasvang, a third-year student at the academy, is working with sound in art installations with drawings, paintings, photography, text and performances. When she creates sounds and plays performances and concerts she calls the combination The secret sound.

“The sound is usually voice-based, with elements such as traffic noise and air conditioning systems. The visuals, usually in black and white, are coordinated with the sound, which is fluid and rhythmic,” she says.

Aasvang’s goal for the process is to expand our internal and external landscapes.

“I have long been fascinated by ancient cultural traditions, in terms of both pictures and music. How melodies may have lasted for generations, where the meaning of the words has been lost. The idea of humankind’s desire to make its mark and express itself is fascinating, but also basic,” Aasvang says.
