Inadequate search and rescue services

Industrial activity in the Arctic is expected to increase in the years ahead. However, there is a lack of adequate search and rescue systems in the event of capsizes and other accidents. Researchers will correct this as part of a joint Norwegian collaborative project called SARiNOR (Search and Rescue in the High North), involving industry, research institutes, public agencies and politicians. The aim is to come up with specific proposals as a basis for developing an efficient rescue service. The project will be launched in late winter and will be headed by the SINTEF company MARINTEK.
